so here is the cover for the second issue:
We can obviously see that DC's key icons (the trinity) are members: Superman, Wonder Woman, and Batman. And we can see someone wielding what appears to be the ring of a Green Lantern. Judging by the hair, it wouldn't appear to be John Stewart (unless he has grown his hair out), so I'll hazard a guess that it is more likely Hal Jordan. We see the silhouette of one of the Hawks in the background. Could be Hawkgirl. But the character is brandishing a mace, and typically Hawkman has been the one to carry that weapon. Then we see an archer with a green bow. One might jump to the assumption it is Green Arrow. However, the character doesn't seem to be wearing a cowl, so I'm thinking perhaps it is Oliver's son Connor. The silhouette of the Martian Manhunter is fairly obvious. That leaves three more characters. Someone with really big fists who looks like he might be in armor. A Rocket Red perhaps (though if this group is really the Justice League of America, that isn't likely)? Captain Atom? Or the Ray (though he isn't represented on the cover to the first issue)? I like the idea of the Ray in the Justice League myself. The last two characters I am going to guess are both females (since thus far the only other female member of the group is Wonder Woman and both silhouettes appear to be female). The silhouette with the stuff trailing behind could be the Raven. Or maybe we're seeing a new Dove???? Wasn't there also a female version of the Creeper introduced recently (or was that an Elseworlds type tale)? I really have no idea who the other silhouette (beneath the Hawk silhouette) is. It literally could be just about anyone (on one hand I'd like it to be the Black Canary ... but at the same time I don't want anything to take away from her participatio in Birds of Prey). Might be Vixen (though she doesn't seem quite 'iconic' enough to be on this team ---- then again, if Jon Stewart is not the GL representative for the Justice League, then Vixen might be the fallback just so the League isn't completely caucasian in nature -- Martian Manhunter aside).
Any guesses from the peanut gallery? _________________ Bender: Hey chumps. I heard you were on the ass end of an ass-kickin'... |

Well, I saw a Vixen mention from a San Diego Comic Con panel report that featured Brad Meltzer. He said she shows up in the first issue, but that wasn't a definitive response in terms of her being one of the chosen team members.
Speculation is still running rampant.
I do know that the character I originally though was the Martian Manhunter is not the Martian Manhunter. Meltzer said he wasn't putting him in as one of the regular members because he doesn't quite get him. Judging from the character that is going to be featured in the first story arc, it would seem that silhouette is actually the Red Tornado. _________________ Bender: Hey chumps. the first issue still hasn't shipped, so the lineup is still a mystery.
However .... I did see the cover to the 4th issue and Vixen is on it.
So Vixen would definitely appear to be a member. _________________ Bender: Hey chumps. I heard you were on the ass end of an ass-kickin'... |

guess I should mention the team now that the first issue is out:
Of course you've got Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman (we knew they were on the team).
Rounding out the group is Hal Jordan (Green Lantern), the Black Canary, Black Lightning, Hawkgirl, Vixen, Roy Harper (Arsenal), and the Red Tornado.
Certainly an interesting selection of characters.
I'm really not sure why they chose to bring back Black Lightning (as I thought he had retired from the super-hero biz).
Also, what I find really surprising is the number of female members. They make up almost half the team (4 out of 9).
Typically you don't find that level of a mix.
Still not sure about the combination however. I don't know that everyone really brings something necessary to the mix (not exactly redundancies in power ... but maybe in skills). _________________ Bender: Hey chumps. I heard you were on the ass end of an ass-kickin'... |
